19th China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair Kicked off

The 19th China Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Fair (CAF), honored as “Olympics” in the agricultural technology, was kicked off on November 20 in Shaanxi Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone, the country’s unique agricultural hi-tech industries demonstration zone. 

Liu Tianxiong, Deputy Secretary-general of the Organizing Committee of the 19th CAF, said  that it was co-sponsored by 19 ministries and the People’s Government of Shaanxi, such as the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, and co-organized by 13 domestic and foreign institutions like FAO, State Agriculture Comprehensive Development Office and China Rural Technology Development Center, with the theme of “innovation, cooperation and agricultural modernization”.

It is reported that the 19th CAF will sufficiently highlight the high-tech feature and recommend 674 items of the latest agricultural research results and 223 agriculture-related patents to exhibitors, venture capital firms, and agribusinesses. Meanwhile, there will be 17 theme exhibitions covering modern crop seeds, red wine, agricultural machinery, water conservancy new technology, farmers’ gizmo, which are designed to provide scientific and technological support to achieve the sustainable development of China's agriculture.

The annual CAF was established in 1994. By far, it has attracted over 1.8 million businessmen of tens of thousands of agribusinesses from more than 40 countries and regions and 31 provinces and cities in China to attend the CAF. The total trade value accumulated to more than 270 billion yuan.

As legends go, Yangling is where the agriculture ancestor Hou Ji taught people how to grow crops. Since the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, it has become the science and education base with 10 scientific research and education institutions and over 5,000 talents engaged in agricultural technology. Besides, it has initially formed a new industrial pattern of modern agriculture highlighted by scientific research, stock breeding, water-saving irrigation, environmental protection, bioengineering, and gene engineering. And therefore it is honored as China’s Agricultural Technology City.
